TSMC uses the TSMC ESG AWARD to inspire colleagues to explore good ideas related to the company's five ESG directions and inject sustainable momentum into daily operations. In order to use resources more efficiently and expand the scope of public welfare, as well as promote the reduction of raw material packaging, one of the TSMC ESG AWARD-winning proposals, "Recycled Box Alliance" was launched in 2023. Together with PackAge+, a startup that won the ATCC National College Business Case Competition representing TSMC, the company converts waste plastics into "environmental recycled boxes" to replace disposable cartons, and invited the social welfare organization Chen Yang Sheltered Workshop to provide box cleaning services. On average, recycling one box can reduce 0.38 kilograms of carbon emissions. TSMC’s PVC glove supplier Vega International Co., Ltd. used environmentally friendly recycled boxes for shipment to TSMC for reuse. As of October, the project has reduced 4 metric tons of carbon and is estimated to save 30,000 cartons per year. It also provides job opportunities for people with disabilities, creating a positive cycle that is friendly to the environment and society.

Working with TSMC to make environmentally friendly recycled boxes not only integrates ESG concepts into our core business, but also provides employment opportunities for disadvantaged groups and achieves economic and social responsibilities. This effort is deeply meaningful.

Resource Recycling + Social Care, Dual and Mutual Benefits

TSMC adheres to "minimizing waste output, maximizing resource recycling, and optimizing vendor management" as its execution principles, actively explores green opportunities within the factory, and carries out resource sustainability actions with suppliers to reduce the use of transportation consumables and reuse the plastic waste generated from consumable packaging. TSMC and suppliers analyze, deploy and customize box materials to recycle waste plastic into reusable environmentally friendly recycled boxes, activating the recycling value of discarded resources. In addition, adhering to the core spirit of "Leaving No One Behind", TSMC cooperates with social welfare organizations to clean the completed boxes before providing them to suppliers, creating supportive employment opportunities to people with disabilities and achieving the dual benefits of reducing waste and carbon emissions and caring for the disadvantaged.

Reuse Process of Environmentally Friendly Recycled Boxes made of Waste Plastics

TSMC continues to carry out its commitment to environmental protection and social responsibility, and works with suppliers to launch environmentally friendly recycled boxes. It also provides support and assistance to disadvantaged groups, and cross-border cooperation creates more opportunities for innovation and sustainable development.

TSMC is committed to creating value through resource recycling and will expand the application scope of environmentally friendly recycled boxes. The company plans to introduce suppliers of hair caps and masks into the project. It is estimated that this can save 20,000 disposable cartons and provide more support for the disabled. While providing employment opportunities and improving the green circulation of the supply chain, it also continues to give back to the society and achieve common good.
