In the spirit of our ESG vision of "Uplifting society," TSMC recognizes organizations for their achievements in executing sustainability projects and encourages employees to explore and discover innovative ideas linked to the Company's five ESG directions through the TSMC ESG AWARD. Following the first warm-up program of the fourth annual TSMC ESG AWARD, "ESG 21+" which used 21 scenarios to guide employees to understand the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and cultivate sustainable living habits, the second warm-up program, "My ESG Pledge" was launched. Led by 55 senior executives, employees were invited to propose sustainable development visions and commitments related to the five ESG directions to become key promoters of creating impact. The program has attracted more than 10,000 employees from Taiwan and overseas offices to participate, resulting in 15,309 pledges being made, continuing to drive positive changes.

Top-level Executives Speak Up, Guiding Employees to Build Sustainable Capacity

Sustainable development has become the shared goal of all humankind. TSMC actively promotes its five ESG directions to fulfill its responsibilities as a corporate citizen, and encourages all employees to act together. Hence, TSMC's ESG Department and IT Divisions cooperated to build an online platform with a design concept of "Sustainable Wafer Tree," inviting high-level executives from a range of organizations to lead the way in making ESG pledges among colleagues, promoting the continuous growth of the tree symbolizing sustainable energy that is always thriving. After making their pledge, employees can participate in voting, and the highest-voted declarations from high-level executives and employees of each organization will be displayed at the fourth TSMC ESG AWARD Poster Exhibition. In addition, to break language barriers, the platform has implemented an auto-translation feature supporting diversity and inclusion.

Circular Economy: Transforming Used Wafer Cassettes into Business Cardholders

The cornerstone of TSMC's sustainable operation is to prosper with the earth's environment. Among the 15,309 declarations, nearly 40% were related to the "Green Manufacturing" direction of the five ESG directions, indicating that colleagues are highly concerned about strengthening environmental protection and energy conservation issues, and are willing to put them into practice. To inspire colleagues to think of more innovative green ideas, we followed up our warm-up program for the third annual ESG AWARD in 2022, “From Plastic to Fabric – Your Eco-friendly T-shirt Made from Recycled Plastic Bottles,” with another team-up between TSMC's ESG Department and the Material Supply Chain Management Division. They joined hands once again to give new life to used wafer cassettes and remake them into limited-edition business cardholders from 100% recycled materials and used them as event giveaways, endowing resources with new value and commemorative significance.
