In its pursuit to be a positive force for social good, TSMC is dedicated to implementing sustainable practices through the TSMC ESG AWARD, which encourages positive changes. A standout initiative from the 2023 award, the "Circular Box Alliance," involves partnering with suppliers to transform factory plastic waste into eco-friendly circular boxes. On average, each box reduces carbon emissions by 0.38 kilograms. Additionally, social welfare organizations are engaged to clean these boxes, creating a multifaceted benefit for both the environment and community welfare. By 2024, TSMC had further encouraged suppliers to join the "Box Replacement Program," substituting single-use cardboard boxes with these eco-friendly circular boxes. As of October, ten consumable suppliers have participated, utilizing 46,367 circular boxes and reducing carbon emissions by 17.6 tons. On October 22, TSMC hosted the first "TSMC Together for ESG" experience-sharing event to highlight the achievements in packaging material recycling and strengthen the green low-carbon supply chain.
TSMC actively seeks opportunities within the industrial chain to implement green manufacturing and further integrates the power of suppliers to jointly achieve a more sustainable production model.
Fostering Talent and Circular Economies for Prosperous Development
The "Circular Box Alliance" is grounded in talent cultivation and resource recycling. By supporting PackAge+, a social enterprise led by TSMC representatives who triumphed in the ATCC National College Business Case Competition, and collaborating with Dafon Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. in 2023 to create circular boxes, the initiative forsters stable employment for individuals with disabilities through social welfare partnerships. In 2024, TSMC’s Box Replacement Program further incentivized suppliers to embrace these circular boxes, pioneering an innovative ESG collaboration among TSMC, social enterprises, the supply chain, and social welfare groups. This initiative not only advances eco-friendly resource reuse but also extends greater care and support to disadvantaged communities, promoting mutual prosperity for both society and the environment.
Thank you, TSMC, for your support in implementing the eco-friendly recycling box mechanism within the supply chain. We look forward to converting cardboard boxes from different industries into recycling boxes in the future, achieving even better carbon reduction results.
Dafon Environmental Technology is honored to collaborate with TSMC to jointly create a beautiful green supply chain.
The eco-friendly recycling box is an environmentally friendly service that also provides job opportunities for individuals with disabilities. It is a virtuous cycle.
Thank you, TSMC, for recommending the eco-friendly recycling box. After a trial, we found it to be sturdy and are delighted to join this project, striving together for energy saving and carbon reduction.
TSMC remains committed to maximizing the value of resource circulation. In addition to encouraging more suppliers to join the "Circular Box Alliance," TSMC is investing in the adjustment and recycling research of shipping packaging materials. The Company is exploring the development of recycled plastic pallets from discarded wafer boxes for internal use. Through diverse forms of resource utilization, TSMC aims to broaden the benefits of reuse, establishing an operational model that honors both the environment and social responsibilities.
