TSMC actively creates a diverse and inclusive work environment to support employees' work-life balance and career development. In 2023, TSMC welcomed 2,463 newborns of employees in Taiwan, accounting for 1.8% of Taiwan's newborns. The Company continues to drive the implementation of the "TSMC Child Care Benefit Program 2.0" for a family-friendly workplace and has built four preschools on the Company campuses in Hsinchu, Taichung, and Tainan, Taiwan, providing a secure and enriching educational environment for TSMC employees' children aged two to six. The preschools develop unique teaching curricula with four main themes including Thematic STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Education, Immersive Food and Agriculture Education, Communicative Language Education, and Interactive Parenting Education. The childcare services are also available from 7 am to 8 pm to accommodate employees' work schedules. Since 2023, TSMC has made its preschools available to employees of its subsidiaries and affiliated companies. In the 2024 academic year, TSMC plans to further expand the scope by allowing employees' children from the management bureau of the science park where TSMC operates and other companies in the park to attend, working towards the goal of common welfare.

Enriching Educational Environment Encourages Children’s Exploration and Enhances Parental Efficacy

The on-site preschool that TSMC builds is a licensed childcare facility and the first of its kind in the Science Park in Taiwan. The Company is committed to improving the educational performance of the preschool and has been recognized by the public. To encourage children's exploration and curiosity, TSMC has designed an enriching teaching curriculum based on the "Preschool Education and Care Curriculum Guidelines" issued by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education and applied the method of thematic exploratory by developing four major themes. The "Thematic STEAM Education" plans a learning space according to the STEAM category. With self-developed teaching materials and aids such as picture books, videos, observation records, children will be encouraged to develop their interests in different fields. Also, parent employees can work with teachers to develop science experimental activities voluntarily, guiding children to learn from experience and fostering their creative thinking and interest in science. The "Immersive Food and Agriculture Education" takes children to visit farms, gardens, and orchards to let them learn more about rice, vegetable, and fruit planting and production processes, enhancing their environmental awareness. Through participating in the cooking and activities like "Little Boss," children can start to develop awareness of cherishing food and entrepreneurship.

The "Communicative Language Education" focuses on creating an open, inclusive, and multicultural learning environment. Children can learn local languages such as Taiwanese and Hakka Chinese through games and songs. This not only becomes the languages between teachers and students but also increases the opportunities for children to communicate with elders. The teacher's self-made teaching material, "Explore Hsinchu with Joy," won the special prize in the 2023 of the "Selection of Teaching Resources for Local Language Integration in Preschool Education" held by the Ministry of Education's Hakka Group. The "Interactive Parenting Education" helps to increase parental involvement in children's education and growth by encouraging parent employees to participate in programs such as individual development assessments, one-on-one parent-teacher conferences, diverse parent-child activities, borrowing book for family reading, and regular sharing of parenting articles to enhance employees’ parenting skills and help develop positive personal traits in children.

The STEAM teaching method has sparked great interest in children. Through weekly class updates, I can learn about the children's research content and become a science promotion volunteer, which creates more topics for conversation with the children and a sense of achievement.
