To fulfill its People Vision and foster an inclusive workplace, TSMC actively supports the creation of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), encouraging colleagues to support and learn from each other. After establishing three ERGs at its Taiwan sites, the Company is now enhancing its inclusive workplace initiatives at overseas locations. For the first time, TSMC has launched a local Veterans ERG, Veterans@tsmc, in the United States to strengthen support for diverse groups. Additionally, TSMC has broadened the focus areas of its second campaign. In collaboration with ERGs, the Company invited notable figures such as Paralympic visually-impaired judo athlete Lee Kai-Lin, Li Jia-Mei, the founder of the Spotlight Gallery dedicated to disabled artists, and internationally acclaimed director Ang Lee. These influencers shared their insights and practices on inclusion through the lenses of sports, arts, and film, respectively. The events attracted over 6,000 participants, significantly enhancing awareness of inclusion.
TSMC Launches First U.S. Local ERG to Support Veterans' Career Development
U.S. veterans hold a significant place in American society due to their military experience, discipline, and leadership skills, and diverse backgrounds, which bring unique perspectives and experiences to the workplace. To cultivate diverse talent, TSMC employees who are veterans from Arizona, Washington, and other parts of North America, along with partners passionate about supporting veterans, launched Veterans@tsmc on Veterans Day, November 11th, 2024. The mission of this Employee Resource Group (ERG) is to promote career growth, community expansion, and personal development for veterans. By enhancing veteran recruitment and retention, engaging with local veteran organizations, and establishing peer support groups, Veterans@tsmc facilitates experience sharing and tackle workplace challenges. This initiative underscores TSMC's commitment to an inclusive workplace.
Integrity and Commitment are core values at TSMC, resonating deeply with the beliefs held by veterans. No matter what challenges may arise, once a commitment is made, it will be fulfilled.
Multi-dimensional Perspectives on inclusion Topics to Foster Allyship
TSMC continues to enhance employees' awareness through various initiatives. The second campaign launched with a global online event titled “Shout Out to DEI,” encouraging employees to express their thoughts and expectations for an inclusive workplace. In collaboration with ERGs, the campaign focused on three key areas: Action, Equity, and Allyship. This year, Global Family@tsmc enhanced multicultural celebrations by introducing a European booth and, for the first time, featuring a Mexican colleague on the customs of the Day of the Dead, enriching the cultural experience. Accessibility@tsmc organized an event themed "Sports x Arts: Diverse Perspectives on Equity and Allyship," exploring pathways to achieving equity through sports and the arts. This event also encouraged colleagues to become allies for their support groups, fostering mutual support and growth. Women@tsmc and EWC invited internationally acclaimed director Ang Lee to share insights on diversity and inclusion through the lens of his films. His discussions covered a good variety of topics, including gender, generational, and cultural differences, as well as his experiences collaborating with teams from different countries. These insights inspired employees with new ideas and heightened awareness of cross-cultural communication.
I envision an ideal future where diverse groups are naturally embraced with empathy, rather than seen as issues to address.
The founder of Spotlight Gallery shared insights that deepened my understanding of the unique brushstrokes in each painting and the challenges involved in completing these works. I am grateful for this exchange, which allowed me to hear and appreciate diverse voices and perspectives.
TSMC views diverse talent as a vital asset and consistently supports the development of ERGs both domestically and internationally. Through advancing initiatives and organizing a series of activities, the Company aims for every employee to become a catalyst in fostering an inclusive workplace. This effort is expected to enhance team collaboration, deepen self-fulfillment, and create sustainable value.
