TSMC introduces diverse measures to care for new hires and help them adapt to work life.

TSMC’s people vision is to “Provide a Diverse and Inclusive Environment to Inspire Passion and Enable the Best in you”. TSMC has demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering a diverse and thriving environment, aiming to inspire employees and facilitate their personal and professional growth. With the proportion of Generation Z employees surpassing 10%, the Company has strategically initiated measures to comprehensively engage with and cater to this demographic. In 2022, the Company introduced two significant initiatives: the "WeCare Survey" and the HR AI chatbot “Bonnie". These platforms facilitate open communication and responsive assistance for new hires. Simultaneously, TSMC introduced the "How to Succeed as a Newcomer to the Workplace" in-person course and "Gen Z - Making an Impact" live-streamed lecture series, designed to equip young professionals with the essential tools to navigate the professional landscape. TSMC’s approach leverages a multifaceted strategy encompassing "Caring Survey," "AI Collaboration," and "Course Learning." As of September 2023, these initiatives have collectively reached a user base of 112,194 for "Survey Caring" and "AI Collaboration." Impressively, over 2,849 new hires have achieved a full completion rate (100%) for the in-person course, while participation in the online Live seminars has exceeded 5,172.

Enhancing New Hire Assimilation: Synergizing WeCare Survey, AI Chatbot, and Training Courses

In order to channel the unique strengths of each employee and enable them to reach their full potential in their designated roles, proactive engagement, continuous dialogue, and timely support play a pivotal role. The Wecare Survey questionnaire has been meticulously engineered in pursuit of an in-depth grasp of new hires' challenges, expectations, and sense of accomplishment, along with fostering an environment that promotes open expression of ideas. This questionnaire empowers employees to choose between providing anonymous suggestions or openly seeking assistance, and covers a spectrum of domains including self-efficacy (learning), role clarity (work), social interactions, and organizational culture. For those who disclose their identity, their supervisors, HR personnel, and their Buddy can promptly provide assistance. Additionally, the AI-powered HR Chatbot Bonnie is available 24/7 to address HR-related questions raised by new hires. Based on the WeCare Survey responses, Bonnie can also provide practical tips, real-time encouragement, and support to new hires. By leveraging the collaboration between humans and machines, this approach not only ensures proactive care for new hires but also reduces the workload for HR personnel, leading to improved response efficiency for employee inquiries.

To further facilitate the transition of Gen Z new hires from campus to the workplace, TSMC has customized a small-class course, "How to Succeed as a Newcomer to the Workplace," which is divided into three themes: work mentality, stress management, and workplace communication. Through situational case studies, new hires' coping skills are improved. In addition, external lecturers are invited to share their solutions to work problems based on professional knowledge and personal experience through the live-streamed lectures, "Gen Z - Making an Impact". This helps new hires to improve their practical skills in the workplace.
