TSMC embraces a people-oriented safety culture. With the expansion of our manufacturing capacity, the number of contractors with high-risk operations has increased from 32,880 in 2021 to more than 40,000 in 2022. To ensure that the contractors understand the operation risks and deepen their safety awareness, TSMC implements the safety management of the construction site in three aspects, including risk identification, management counseling, and execution inspection. To further promote the digital transformation of workplace health safety and health, TSMC has also launched a series of courses at TSMC Supplier Sustainability Academy. Contractors with high-risk operations must complete all the training courses before entering the fab site. As of December 2022, more than 200,000 people had completed 21 occupational safety and health courses.

TSMC Launched Contractor Online Safety Training with over 200,000 People Completed Courses

Contractors Can Obtain Access Control and Work Permit to Start Construction Only After Trainings

To strengthen the operation safety of contractors, TSMC’s corporate Environment, Safety and Health (ESH) division has made an online interactive training about the occupational safety and health related regulations, adopting the annual retraining for all contractors and connecting the education and training records with the access control and work permit system, so the work permit of contractors with high-risk operations won’t work until they complete the online training course and pass the test. In addition, TSMC has also made an online system for contractors to apply for work permits, by which contractors can register for training and retrain any time. Contractors can easily get their work permit and enter the fab site after passing the training test and completing review of the certification materials through the online system, which greatly helps to save time and cost and improve construction efficiency.
