In response to the increasing diversity of technical documents and the growing demand for file transfers, in 2024 TSMC introduced a new "File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Account Service" on its customer self-service wafer order system, "TSMC-Online^TM," to ensure that customer data can be transmitted and maintained quickly under the Proprietary Information Protection (PIP) mechanism and information security protocols. This new service significantly reduces the time required for customers to apply for an FTP account from 3.5 days to just 12 seconds. Additionally, it enhances the security mechanisms to improve data transfer security, creating a more convenient and secure user experience through the automated FTP account management process.

Automated FTP Management: Convenient and Secure

FTP is an indispensable tool for transferring critical information between TSMC and its customers, with an average of over 50 million transfers annually. Previously, FTP accounts for customers were mainly applied for and verified by TSMC personnel. To enhance efficiency and security, TSMC's Customer Service (CSV) and Information Technology (IT) teams have collaborated to integrate TSMC-Online^TM resources, creating a self-service FTP account management feature. Customers can now autonomously apply for accounts and manage permissions via TSMC-Online^TM, significantly improving processing efficiency.

In addition, the system performs automatic security checks to instantly search, compare, and block risky FTP IP addresses, effectively preventing misuse that could compromise critical information. This not only protects and enhances file transfer security but also initiates disconnection notifications for long-unused FTP accounts, ensuring optimal use of server space resources and enforcing stringent information security control.
