The sustainability report serves as a vital tool for managing TSMC’s sustainability performance and benchmarking against global trends. The latest "TSMC 2023 Sustainability Report" details the Company's efforts in the past year in connecting with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to deliver results in the economic, environmental, and social dimensions, and creating shared value with the ripple effect of TSMC’s positive influence.

Driving the Five Sustainability Roles to Support SDGs

TSMC acts on its five sustainability roles, starting from its core business. In 2023, the Company responded to nine SDGs with 57 long-term commitments through the continuous efforts of all its employees. It also disclosed executive compensation tied to ESG indicators for the first time, deepening the Company's commitment to sustainability management. Determined to be an innovation pioneer, in 2023 TSMC led the industry with volume production of an enhanced 3-nanometer technology, N3E, and brought 11,895 innovative products to life for customers through 288 distinct process technologies. Additionally, the Company developed high transmittance EUV pellicles and an efficient and energy-saving method to evaluate wafer reliability, demonstrating the Company’s innovative capabilities.

As a responsible purchaser, TSMC guided suppliers in implementing the New Factory Construction Plan at the factory construction stage. The Company established a programmatic management approach for suppliers’ factories with the "Maintain the Old as the New" project, and collaborated with major emission contributors to propose a 900,000-ton carbon reduction plan, enhancing operational resilience.

As a practitioner of green power, TSMC’s advanced process technologies continued to help the world save energy. The Company restored two million cubic meters of groundwater through water conservation engineering, and launched the Zero Waste Manufacturing Center at the Central Taiwan Science Park, working tirelessly towards achieving Water Positive status and circular economy.

At the same time, TSMC established Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to support under-represented groups, hosting the first Accessible Workplace Experience Camp and launching the Accessibility-friendly Workplace Optimization project to promote diversity and inclusion. The Company also advanced the TSMC ChildCare Benefit Program 2.0, acting on its goal of being an admired employer. Additionally, TSMC introduced AI technology to enhance the efficiency of employee health data classification for the first time and upgraded personal protective equipment. The Company also organized new chemicals education and training for the R&D organization, prioritizing the use of green chemicals for R&D tests to ensure comprehensive workplace safety.

Beyond pursuing business growth, TSMC actively addressed diverse social issues through the TSMC Education and Culture Foundation and the TSMC Charity Foundation. Besides actively listening to, supporting, and empowering target groups by TSMC’s six core services, the Company further integrated the Impact Reporting and Investment Standards (IRIS+) developed by the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) with the five dimensions of the Impact Management Project (IMP) - Who, What, How Much, Contribution, and Risk. TSMC applied this assessment methodology for the first time to its longstanding Teach and Learn Program and Vocational Skills Empowerment Program, laying the foundation for optimizing various action plans, expanding impact, and driving the power to change society.
