TSMC values its employees’ physical and mental health, and in response to lifting COVID-19 restrictions, the Company resumed holding its Sports Day event in 2023. To further enhance sustainable management practices and pass on experience in sustainable event organization, TSMC adopted ISO 20121 Event Sustainability Management Systems this year and set an "Event Sustainability Development Policy". With a focus on six key areas - green energy, sustainable consumption, waste and carbon reduction, promoting sustainable values, reuse and recycling, and safety management - the Company is promoting sustainable practices at Sports Day to realize the value of sustainable development. TSMC’s Sports Day was officially certified for ISO 20121 on October 14, making it the first company in Taiwan to obtain certification for a Sports Day event.
ESG Practices at Sports Day with PDCA Circular Management
The United Nations "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" recognizes sports as a crucial driver for sustainable development, and TSMC considers it a medium to convey and practice sustainable values. To align with international standards, TSMC established the "ISO 20121 Sustainable Event Management System Promotion Committee", which considers stakeholder concerns from preparation through to the conclusion of sporting events. By implementing the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) principle, the Company continuously plans, executes, audits, and takes action to improve sustainable performance. In addition, to encourage participants to learn about a wide range of sustainable issues, ESG booths were set up at this year's sports day and 16 different types of vendors were invited to participate, including local eco-friendly farmers, charitable organizations, and social enterprises. Among them, three were winning teams from the TSMC Education and Culture Foundation's TSMC Udreamer project. Through diverse experiential activities, the booths guided participants to understand issues such as circular packaging, marine conservation, and robotics education, enhancing awareness and action towards environmental protection and social care.
TSMC continues to deepen the scope and content of its sustainable management by adopting the ISO 20121 event management standard for Sports Day, our largest annual event. This enhances stakeholders' understanding of ESG and fulfills the Company's commitment to sustainable development.
TSMC continuously explores diverse, sustainable innovation models with its ESG vision of uplifting society. In addition to implementing the ISO 20121 event management standard at Sports Day, TSMC will expand its application to other events, such as family days, sports tournaments, and more. TSMC also encourages other business partners and supply chains to join and extend the impact of sustainable development, creating a better future together.
