To foster rural empowerment, the TSMC Charity Foundation has actively provided diverse learning resources. In addition to introducing hands-on science education to reinforce students’ scientific literacy, the Foundation has promoted dynamic technical and vocational training projects and the Road to Employment Program to help students with self-exploration in developing their potential. In a bid to bring senior high and vocational high students closer to understanding diverse industries and enhance their competitiveness, this year the Foundation expanded its Road to Employment Program by working with the K-12 Education Administration under the Ministry of Education (MOE) and six county or city governments to organize a job fair for senior high and vocational high school students—the first of its kind. With career exploration and job placement as the two main highlights, the Foundation collaborated with over 376 local businesses to offer more than 7,000 job opportunities, helping students evaluate their future career and assisting in job placement. As of July 2023, a total of six job fairs have been held, benefiting more than 12,000 students.

Strategies to Empower the Rural Community

Enabling Students to Expand Their Horizons with the Help of Career Exploration and Job Placement Sessions

The Foundation makes continuous efforts to improve the quality of education and boost employment in rural areas. In 2020, TSMC collaborated with 104 Job Bank to launch the Road to Employment Program, inviting over a hundred professionals to appear on film and share their career stories. A dedicated website was also built to showcase these stories, encouraging students to use them as reference in finding their career paths. In 2023, the Foundation organized job fairs for senior high and vocational high school students, with career exploration and job placement designed as the main highlights. The aim is to focus resources on these two highlights to help students settle on certain targets early on and discover even more diverse career options.

Two Highlights of the Job Fair

This job fair offers a blueprint for growth, replete with abundant opportunities for parents and students. It showcases a variety of choices that one can make other than the pursuit of higher education.

Pooling Resources from the Industry, Government and Academia to Help Students Develop Their Talents

With a view to becoming a force for good in the society, this year the Foundation organized job fairs for senior high and vocational high school students to promote communication and job matching between youths and corporations to create a win-win situation. Participants of the job fair include companies from such industries as manufacturing, electronics technology, hospitality and catering, retail and services industry. The Foundation will continue to invite more participants for next year’s job fair, expecting more corporate partners and government agencies to take part in the event. The job fair enables teachers and parents to interact and exchange views, which could help junior high students with career exploration before deciding on whether to pursue education in a senior high or vocational high school. The Foundation hopes to combine the strengths of the industry, government, and academia to inspire students, encourage them to develop their full potential according to their forte, and cultivate specialized skills useful for building their career.
