TSMC Education and Culture Foundation has long dedicated itself to youth development and organizing various literary art competitions as a way to foster a culture of literacy for the younger generation. Among the competitions, the TSMC Youth Literature Award, organized together with United Daily News, is a literature award with generous prize grants for senior high school and vocational high school students. The Award is now in its 20th year since it was first held in 2004. This year’s competition received 1,742 entries, making the number of total entries submitted in the past twenty years reached 13,752. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the TSMC Youth Literature Award, the theme of this year’s competition is “Blossoming,” symbolizing the literary creative seeds that TSMC Education and Culture Foundation has planted are budding, germinating, and now blossoming. The Foundation continues to make efforts in nurturing future literary and art talent.
New Events to Celebrate the 20th Anniversary, Allowing Students to Explore Their Literary Creativity
The TSMC Youth Literature Award is specified in three categories - short stories, essays, contemporary poetry, and the first prize winner in the short stories category is awarded with NT$ 300,000. Apart from the literature competition, the Foundation also organizes literary events such as writers talks campus tour, a face-to-face seminar for candidates and award judges, All Things Literature blog call for entries, and vote for Ten Favorite Books for High School Students. Moreover, the Foundation held three special events to celebrate the 20th anniversary milestone - Online Book Exhibitions of Previous Award Winners, Rising Sun Awards, and Documentary of Portraits of TSMC Youth Literary Writers, further cultivating younger generation’s love for literature and encouraging them to explore their literary creativity.
Looking back at the past twenty years, we appreciate the literary education that TSMC Youth Literature Award has brought us, which empowered young writers to proudly pursuit their dream on creative writing.
The recognition of TSMC Youth Literature Award brought me the warmest and the most friendly experience. Such feeling still comforts me right now even though I am no longer young.
