As the world's largest dedicated semiconductor foundry, TSMC not only employed 43,000 employees, but also created additional 364,000 jobs in Taiwan. In 2019, the number of contractors working in TSMC has exceeded 25,000 every day, topping all the technology companies in Taiwan. As TSMC continues to expand its capacity, how to safely manage the huge number of construction projects and workers, and achieve the goal of "zero incident and zero occupational injury" has become our top priority.

With the strict requirements of TSMC, the safety quality of contractors has been improved.

TSMC manages and counsels contractors based on "Safety and Health Policy", and has launched a series of education and training courses about the prevention of occupational disease. In November of 2019, TSMC led the industry to publish the "Blue Book for Contractors' Safety, Health and Environmental Protection" as the safety guide for contractors. The Company also held the "Communication Meeting for ESH Supervisors of Contractors" across TSMC’s factories. In this meeting, we asked contractors’ ESH supervisors to give the front-line ESH workers with the authority to take the initiative to stop unsafe work behaviors and environments. Through the support of top ESH managers from contractors, we hope we will create a safe and healthy work environment for all contractors working in TSMC.

Mr. Han Wen Fung, Director of Corporate ESH Division, reiterated the importance of creating a safe workplace with contractors, and awarded the 2019 "Excellent ESH Contractor Award" for those who had no audit defect, proactively notified the anomalies in workplace, and actively stopped unsafe behaviors. At the same time, the winners were invited to share the experience and methods of fulfilling "zero accident and zero occupational injury".

Thanks to TSMC for the recognition of the excellent ESH contractor award, which gave our on-site ESH guards the courage to immediately "shut down the work" when the unsafe behavior was discovered.
