In response to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 Quality Education, TSMC actively supports youth education and talent development. In 2020, TSMC allocated NT$20 million from the budget for the cancelled Sports Day due to COVID-19 and collaborated with the Taiwan Aboriginal Baseball Development Association (TABDA) and the Taiwan Basegarden Baseball Development Association (TBBDA) to launch the TSMC Little Baseball Hero Support Program for three years. The program aims to foster reading education and cultivate a second skill for rural children who play baseball, while enhancing the professional training of coaches. The program has benefited over 7,600 person-times from 80 schools. To expand the benefits of resource investment, TSMC launched an internal fixed monthly donation program in 2023 to encourage employees to provide long-term support, enabling more children to have the opportunity to transform their lives and pursue a broad future.

Empowering Players and Coaches to Maximize Potential

TSMC supports the TABDA’s plan to cultivate players’ secondary skills, providing career experience courses to guide children in understanding the diverse aspects of sports, such as community management, sports protection, event broadcasting, and scout sharing, to explore their potential talents and inspire them to learn more professional skills. To reduce the gap in teaching resources between urban and rural areas, TSMC also encourages the TABDA to promote coach competence training to improve the coaches’ knowledge of sports science, sports nutrition, and injury prevention. This helps coaches enhance players’ awareness of health, safety, and self-care skills during the teaching process. TSMC also introduced a mentoring tour that organizes good coaches from academia and industry to visit elementary, junior high, and high schools in rural area to provide further guidance on what players and coaches have learned, thus improving training quality and athletic performance.

Reading Reward Programs to Establish a Foundation for Education

In addition to baseball coaching, TSMC supports the TBBDA in setting up baseball reading classrooms for elementary and junior high and school baseball teams in rural and indigenous areas. The program includes reading worksheets, reward systems, and lectures to encourage children to develop reading habits and improve concentration and critical thinking skills. The program has covered a total of 25 schools in Hsinchu County, Taichung City, Hualien County, and Taitung County. For outstanding children with good moral qualities and academic performance, TSMC provides baseball scholarships that are presented by professional baseball players to inspire learning and confidence, thus laying the foundation for education.

TSMC Baseball Volunteers Helping Children Pursue Their Dreams

The baseball-loving employees of TSMC have also formed a volunteer team to help children pursue their dreams. Volunteers regularly visit Da-Tong Elementary School in Hsinchu County to share new baseball skills, provide academic and life counseling for children. In 2023, through the TSMC Charity Foundation, 1,868 TSMC employees came together to assist in the renovation of Da-Tong Elementary School's baseball field, purchase equipment and shuttle bus, to provide children with a safer training environment and equipment to unleash their best potential.

Through the TSMC Little Baseball Hero Support Program, the Company will continue to support the grassroots baseball teams of the TABDA and the TBBDA by fixed monthly donation, expanding their scope and benefiting more individuals. The program not only broadens the players’ horizons and enhances coaches’ knowledge, but also plans to integrate the TSMC Charity Foundation’s professional resources and introduce diversified career exploration to encourage children to build confidence, unleash their potential, and cultivate lifelong professional skills.
