TSMC Education and Culture Foundation is committed fostering artistic and literary talent in young people and encourages young students to develop their creative talents and foster a positive reading environment through multiple literary competitions, such as TSMC Youth Literature Award and TSMC Literature Award, During the 2022 summer break, the Foundation worked with Unitas magazine to organize a three-day TSMC Youth Literature Camp at the Emei Junior High School in Hsinchu County, Taiwan. 67 young students aged 12 to 15 years old, from Taoyuan, Hsinchu and Miaoli County, were selected to join the camp. The camp invited well-known Taiwanese authors to tutor the young students through five major courses that guided them to appreciate literature, and refine their perception and writing skills. The camp aims to ignite a passion for writing and cultivates future emerging talents in art and literature.
Five Major Courses to Provide Creative Inspirations
In 2021, the first TSMC Youth Literature Camp was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the Foundation successfully held the second literature camp in person for the first time, inviting six mentoring authors to share their creative writing experience with camp attendees. The camp offers five major courses, including “Classics Reading”, “Daily Writing”, “Literary Reportage”, “Tea Tasting”, and “Experiencing Chinese Traditional Opera”. Through various approaches such as videos, drama, and games, the courses help provide creative writing inspiration for camp attendees, supporting and encouraging them to write creatively. To encourage more students from rural areas to enjoy the beauty of literature, the Foundation has reserved some spots specifically for the Emei Junior High School students and students from low-income backgrounds, in order for them to share ideas with each other and enrich their experience.
TSMC Education and Culture Foundation Created Diversified Literary Activities to Encourage Young Students to Write Creatively

The camp mentor read Author Eileen Chang’s stories with us which deeply attracted me and made me feel like I was travelling back in time. I didn’t want to miss any wonderful detail from the book. I’ve only read some of Eileen Chang’s works and had a limited understanding of the author. The books shared by the mentor brought me a fresh perspective on Eileen Chang, and I can’t wait to read more of her works!
Selecting Emei Junior High School to Bring, the Backyard of High Tech City Into the Limelight
This year’s TSMC Youth Literature Camp was held at the Emei Junior High School, the first KIST-inspired experimental high school in Hsinchu County operated by a public-private partnership. In addition to cultivating a love of literature among younger generation, the camp aims to improve education in the area as well as let more people know about Emei township, a place rich in tea culture and natural landscapes. TSMC Education and Culture Foundation will continue to provide more diverse creative platforms to help young students enhance their artistic and literacy skills and encourage them to further explore their potential and pursue their dreams.
