Establishing a Professional and Friendly Workplace for Pregnant Employees, TSMC Newborn Baby Accounts for 1.4% of Taiwan
To establish a workplace friendly for female employees during their pregnancy, TSMC has built a professional health management team to implement a Maternity Support and Care Program, which provides pregnant employee with health risk assessment, work adjustments, maternity benefits, and return to work assistance after maternity leave to ensure safety and health of pregnant employees and their babies. In 2019, the number of newborn babies at TSMC accounts for 1.4% of Taiwan, and 78.8% of employees returned to work after maternity leave, which was better than average in Taiwan. Those are the proofs of TSMC’s efforts to ensure a smooth birth through providing benefits and welfare.

The process and case study of Maternity Support and Care Program
In order to conduct the Maternity Support and Care Program as early as possible, TSMC Employee Welfare Committee provides well-designed baby carrier and New Parents Welfare Package to encourage employee report their pregnancy earlier. There were 4,900 employees have been served by the Maternity Support and Care Program by the end of April, 2020. With the job and work environment improvement based on the results of health risk assessment and follow up management, all employees remained at the level one management, which means the working condition was evaluated by doctors as no harm to the pregnant employee, her fetus or baby.

Employees are the most important asset of TSMC so the Company puts a lot of efforts to promote employee health and work-life balance. In addition to the Maternity Support and Care Program, the Company also provides other maternity benefits, special leave policy such as Parental Leave beyond government requirements, and operates 4 kindergartens to assist employees to take care of their children.
